IP Office External Output Port
Avaya SMBS Technical Support and Pre-Sales have received requests for information on the IP Office External Output Port. This Technical Tip looks at the use of the IP Office's external relay port. This is the port marked as EXT O/P on the rear of all IP Office Control Units.
This port can be used to control up to two external devices through shortcodes, Phone Manager Pro and/or Voicemail Pro call flows.
This Technical Tip is also available as an IP Office Job Aid.
Using the External Output (Door Relay) Port
All the IP Office control units are equipped with a external output port. This port, frequently also called the "door relay port", can be used to control up to two external devices.
The port is marked as EXT O/P and is located on the back of the control unit adjacent to the power supply input socket. It provides two relay connections.
Through the IP Office the two relays can be switched on, off or pulsed (on for 5 seconds). This can be done using shortcodes, through the Door tab in Phone Manager Pro, or via the Open Door action in Voicemail Pro.
As the alternate name for the port suggests, the usual application for these relays is to activate door release systems. However, as long as the criteria for maximum current and voltage are meet, the relays can be used for other applications.
